Walnut Halwa

My sweet sil Thuri comes from the family that makes the best mithai, and she was so kind to share the recipe of this delicious Walnut Halwa made by her beautiful mom

Walnuts are a good source of healthy fats and they’re as good eaten plain but don’t we all love something abit next level once in awhile eh?

Such a delicious treat that can be made easily using the most comforting ingredients

You could definitely use condensed milk or sugar instead but I opted for Kithul jaggery this time as we prefer that flavour..

Ingredients

  • Three Cups Walnuts
  • Two Cups Ghee/Clarified Butter
  • Two Cups Milk Powder
  • One Cup Grated Jaggery melted with 1/2 cup water and cardamom powder
  • One Cup Milk

First let’s prep the ingredients

Step One

Soak the walnuts in milk for at least one hour.

Strain the mixture

Blend the nuts coarsely leaving the milk for later

Step Two

Mix the milk powder with one cup water and one tbsp ghee. You could either use your fingers or put them into a food processor

Set this mixture aside, till you get the rest of the ingredients ready

You could also use khoya for this recipe

Step Three

Melt the grated jaggery in a saucepan, with water and crushed cardamom pods. This has to be warm before using otherwise its gets hard, so make this when you’re about make the halwa.

Step Four

Now you can actually start making the halwa.Keep everything ready because you need to make sure the stirring never stops till the end

In a saucepan mix in the coarsely ground walnuts with the ghee and keep on medium high flame while stirring continuously for about 10 minutes

Step Five

Next add in the milk and keep stirring

Step Six

Now add in the milk powder mixture and mix well

Step Seven

Make sure they’re well combined

Step Eight

Keep stirring for another 10 minutes and you will notice the colour changes gradually

Step Nine

Time to add in the melted jaggery

Few minutes later

Stirring doesn’t stop yet….

Step Ten

Five minutes later

The oil starts coming off the edges of the pan and you will notice the halwa mixture coming together. Now it’s time !!!!
